Blog Withdrawals

The last week and a half has been a complete blur and a rather long dark tunnel. Labor and delivery went better than I could have hoped. I feel so blessed to finally have my perfect, healthy, happy, little one in my arms. [Side note: Lily is the world's best cuddler! If anyone is in need of a quality cuddle, Lily will rock your world!]

Most of the long dark tunnel has been due to the fact that we have had a rough go at the whole breastfeeding thing. Man, it has been so frustrating. I don't think I've ever shed so many tears (both from worry and pain) in my life! I don't particularly want to recap all the details here cause I've already told the story about a million times. Basically, she wasn't latching and when she came close the pain was excruciating for me. But this morning we had a major break through. I have no idea what changed...certainly not anything I did...but out of the blue Lily latched on and the pain was actually at a bearable level! So we've been having rather successful feedings all day! I know we still have a ways to go but I can't even express how relieved and happy I feel.

Anyway, I just felt the need to write cause I've also been experiencing blog withdrawals! Now that there is light at the end of that long dark tunnel I'm hoping to be able to get back to my long lost love!

I am glad things are starting to look up. I would love to come and see you when you are feeling ready for it. I can be patient to give Lily some cuddling though. I'll check back every once in awhile, and you let me know when it works for you :)

Lily looks more beautiful all of the time - and she was pretty beautiful to begin with! I hope breastfeeding continues to get better for you both. It is really a difficult thing to do. Good luck!

shes so cute! good for you for sticking with it....i think you know how i feel about breastfeeding, lol anyways if it is still very painful you can use those plastic shields, i dont know if they told you about them, but they are heaven sent when you have had enough

It's not as easy as it looks, that's for sure! Good job, and I know it will be worth it! Lily is beautiful! Do you want me to take newborn pictures of her when I come?

Breastfeeding IS tough! It's great that you've stuck with it though - it does get better with time. I second the comment about plastic shields...Grace and I had to use one for the whole year!

Mikel, I totally know how you feel, those first two weeks were killers for me. My advice: use Lansinoh, and those breathing techniques you learn for labor, use them when you are feeding her. It helps both you and the baby relax. Good luck! She is adorable!

What ever those nurses tell you (that it shouldn't hurt), they lie. I have had three babies and it has been the worst pain of my life every time. It gets better each day. Don't feel bad. I think most women struggle.

Mikel, I am glad you stuck with it! I never knew breast feeding could be so painful! One of my friends bought me this plastic nipple that you put over your nipple (sorry I am going into detail on this in your blog) and it has worked MIRACLES!! I highly recommend it! You can get it at Target for like 5 bucks. Now the only pain I experience is when he randomly sleeps for 8 hours during the night and I am ENGORGED, like when my milk first came in. I love Lily's hair and I can't wait for our little tikes to meet again! Good luck.

Breastfeeding is the most painful and rewarding thing in the world. I have shed many tears as well trying to nurse babies! The first one is always the hardest, so don't get too frustrated! By the third, it doesn't even phase you! Lily is a doll and I can't wait to see more pictures of her. I am glad also, that you picked out some bows, I will make them and send them with my mom when she comes to visit you in a few weeks.

Your baby is beautiful...OK so maybe your not TOTALLY on your way down...there could be some good too! ;) Looks like baby lily is lucky to have a mom who loves her so much to worry like that. The true sign of mother hood! Of course, I'm not a mom, and I worry all the time... Ok, I'll have to rethink this. Anyhow, congrats, and hope you know that people are thinking of you. ;)
