However, the site said there are 7,598 people named "Mikel"in the country and 99.9% of them are male! I very well may be the ONLY female Mikel out there!

I've known 2 girls with the same pronunciation, but I don't recall their ways of spelling it. One was older than you for sure, and the other probably pretty close in age. (Hopefully it doesn't sound like I'm trying to burst your bubble, because I'm not!)

I've actually known a few other girls named 'Mikel' (one was actually my room mate in college) but none of them spelled it the same way.
i dont think i would have ever thought of mikel for a boy, interesting...
I know of two girls about my age with your name, but they spell it differently, too.
